The Rider

Thank you for your interest in this adventure! My name is Joey Hulbert and I scheduled this ride during a transitional time of my life. I just completed a Dual Masters of Science Degree at Oregon State University on September 19th and I submitted the final draft of my thesis on October 8th.

I shipped my bicycle to Salt Lake City via Amtrak on October 4th and then got on a plane two days later. I traveled to SLC to attend the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) meeting.

I love science, music, bicycles and helping others. I have a BS in Forestry and a Dual MS in Plant Pathology and Wood Science. I view research as a means to make a positive impact on this planet. I am specifically interested in preventing the introduction of invasive microorganisms that cause forest diseases. However, I recognize inspiring others to pursue science may have a bigger impact on the planet than conducting research. Thus, I am passionate about outreach and engagement.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me! Please be sure to contact me if you share any of the same interests or just simply love exploring.
